What are the signs/symptoms of a stroke?(3)
A
- facial weakness - smile? mouth or an eyelid dropped
- arm weakness - can you raise both arms?
- speech problems - speak clearly and understand what is being said

A
- ABCDE approach
- call 999
- ensure that the airway is patent - may ne necessary to place into recovery position
- administer 02 15lts/min
- DO NOT OFFER ANYTHING TO EAT OR DRINK

What are the signs and symptoms of vasovagal syncope(3)
A
- feels faint/dizzy/ light headed
- pt may collapse and loss of consciousness
- pallor, sweating, slow pulse, low BP, nausea/vomiting

What is the treatment of a syncope episode(4)
A
- lie flat and elevate pts legs (pregnant pt should be placed on her side , this prevents the feotus from compressing the inferior vena cava)
- loosen tight clothing
- admin o2 15lts/min
- if becomes unresponsive check for signs of life

What is the ABCDE approach for a syncope episode
A
OVERSTIMULATION OF THE VAGUS NERVE
A - patent
B - increase RR ( more than 25). decrease in Sp02, shallow breathing
C - low HR, (less than 60bpm), hypotension (90/60), pallor
D - pt alert but anxious, low blood glucose potentially
E - distressed, flustered
