Stroke (Risk) Flashcards
What scoring system can be used to diagnose a stroke?
Rosier score
What are the two features of the Rosier scoring system which score 0 points if absent, and -1 points if present? (i.e. they are not indicative of stroke)
Loss of consciousness/syncope, seizure activity
What are the five features of the Rosier scoring system which score 1 point if present and 0 points if absent? (i.e. they are indicative of stroke)
Acute onset of asymmetrical facial weakness, arm weakness or leg weakness, speech disturbance or a visual field defect
A Rosier score of > 0 suggests what?
Stroke is likely
A Rosier score of < / = 0 suggests what?
There is a low possibility of stroke but it is not completely excluded
What scoring system can be used to assess an individual’s risk of stroke?
CHA2DS2VASc
What are the 6 factors on the CHA2DS2VASc scoring system that will score you 1 point?
Congestive heart failure/left vetricular dysfunction, hypertension, diabetes, vascular disease, aged 65-74, female sex
What are the 2 factors on the CHA2DS2VASc scoring system that will score you 2 points?
Aged 75+, previous stroke/TIA/thrombo-embolism
What is the maximum CHA2DS2VASc score?
9
What is the anti-thrombotic management of a person with a CHA2DS2VASc score of 2 or more?
Offer oral anti-coagulation e.g. warfarin or NOAC
What is the anti-thrombotic management of a female with a CHA2DS2VASc score of 1?
No anticoagulation needed (the 1 point is only due to gender)
What is the anti-thrombotic management of a male with a CHA2DS2VASc score of 1?
Consider oral anti-coagulation e.g. warfarin or NOAC preferrably, if not then aspirin
What is the anti-thrombotic management of a person with a CHA2DS2VASc score of 0?
No anticoagulation needed
