Stroke and IR Flashcards
What does an infarct look like on CT after 1-6 hours?
loss of gry matter
What does an infarct look like on CT after 6 hours-4 days?
swelling
What does an infarct look like on CT after 4-14 days?
normal
What does an infarct look like on CT after 14 days?
hypodense, brain volume loss
What does an infarct look like on MRI after 1 hr-10 days?
bright on diffusion-weighted; same as CT on FLAIR/T2
What does DWI show?
new infarcts = very bright; old aren’t seen
On an acute infarct perfusion CT, what is a bad prognostic sign?
increased time to start + increased time to peak w/ decreased blood volume
On an acute infarct perfusion CT, what is a good prognostic sign (brain at risk- save the brain!)?
increased time to start + increased time to peak w/ increased blood volume
What does angiography tell us?
whether a blockage/clot is present and where; perfusion
What is the tx of an acute infarct?
clot = TPA, cath, surg
What does an increased time to start + increased time to peak w/ decreased blood volume indicate on CT?
brain can’t be saved
What does an increased time to start + increased time to peak w/ increased blood volume indicate on CT?
brain still alive but at risk- save the brain!
How can new infarcts be distinguished from old ones?
with DWI
