A

a hemorrhagic stroke is a ruptured artery or aneurysm–> bleeding in the brain

what medication can be given to treat an embolic stroke?

A

give alteplase within 4 an a half hours . If the medication is given after this time, it will literally blow a hole in the brain

what diagnostic test must be done if a patient is suspected of having a stroke?

A

CT scan to assess for brain bleed. if not present, assume ischemic stroke and give alteplase. if present, assume hemorrhagic stroke and prepare patient for a craniotomy
