Striking Flashcards
1
Q
Five phases of a golf swing?
A
Address Backswing Top of backswing Downswing Impact
2
Q
A golf ball is a projectile, and influenced by what four things?
A
Release velocity
Release height
Angle of release
Gravity
3
Q
What is the X-factor?
A
Relative separation between the torso and pelvis
4
Q
Explain the stretch-shortening cycle and its importance?
A
Stretching of upper-body muscles in the backswing creates a ‘stretch’ (eccentric loading) of important muscles
- In golf, the rate of stretch is increased in professional players (greater angular displacement in shorter time)
- Increasing torso-pelvic separation in the backswing enhances this stretch
- To maximise the effect, movement of hips towards the target needed first in downswing
5
Q
Many of the movements in the golf swing are angular but what is the most important factor of a swing?
A
The linear kinematics of club head at impact
