What is general adaption syndrome?
Phase 1 - alarm reactions - two stress hormones are released increase in heart rate and BP Phase 2 - Resistance Releasing stress hormones over prolonged period of time Can deal with days/months/years Phase 3 - Exhaustion Can no longer cope with symptoms = DISEASE
What is Karaseks psychosocial model of job demand?
Low strain, this means (low demand and high control). Eg - works in education.
Active, this is high demand and high control. It can mean a develop of new behaviour patterns. Eg - a technician.
Passive is low demand with low control. Eg - service and sales workers
High strain is high demand and low control, Eg - someone who works in the transport sector. This can result in mental and physical impairment.

Primary appraisal - is there a personal stake (positive, dangerous, irrelevant)
Secondary appraisal - how situation can be dealt with
Insufficient resources or sufficient
Coping - can either be overcoming stress, problem focused or emotion focused
Reappraisal - pacing and learning
