Your body’s way of preparing you to deal with a demanding situation.

What does stress do?
Prepares the body for action which is both necessary and life saving
What happens during alarm stage of stress
activated by anything causing worry, excitement, etc.
=> Body rush with adrenaline, noradrenaline, cortisol => fight flight ready
What happens during resistance stage of stress
Physiology and behavior adjusts to build resistance to the stressor
What happens during exhaustion stage of stress
Body no longer able to resist to stressor, Body continues to secrete stress hormones, tension becomes too much
Short term impacts of stress on health
cold, stiff neck, trouble sleeping, anxiety
Long term impacts of stress on health
depressed immune system, many diseases(coronary heart disease, etc), depression
How to identify stressors and eliminate them?
Can be person, place, event. Then evaluate and determine if eliminating is possible
How to change your perception/response to the stressor?
Can be interpreted as less distressing. Stay calm and focus on the good

Physical , intellectual, emotional
What are some examples of intellectual coping strategies
Different ways of thinking: Problem solving, establish priorities, write down worries, to do list
What are some examples of emotional coping strategies
Live in the present, dont sweat the small stuff, monitor your self talk
Coping by avoidance def
Pretending that the problem does not exist => binge watch netflix => procrastination
Coping by trying to escape def
escaping stress ex: drugs and alcohol to numb the pain
