Stress
a state of physiological or psychological arousal produced by internal and external factors.
Eustress
stress that is positive in nature (e.g. winning a trip overseas).
Distress
stress that is negative in nature (e.g. caused by bad news such as failing an important exam).
Fight-flight response
when the autonomic nervous system (NS) responds to a sudden threat that allows the sympathetic NS to prepare the organism to immediately respond to the threat such as confronting or escaping it.
o Increases heart rate and respiration rate
o Slows or stops digestion
o Increase release of adrenaline and noradrenaline
o Pupils dilate to let in more light and thus allow clearer vision
o Relaxes bladder
