Symptoms must have developed within 3 months of stressor.
Amount of distress must be in excess than expected in relation to the stressor.
Impairment in work, school, relationships.
Symnptoms should resolve within 6 months. .

Prevalent among women, unmarried, younger, disadvantaged background, indigent, lack of support, marital problems, recent losses, frequent moves.

Stress depletes glucose in hippocampus et vulnerable to excitatory NT like gluatamate.

Tx- emotional first aid, psychotherapy, pharmacoptheray, psychosocial .
