Stress
become stressed when our body is no longer in homeostasis because our external challenge or situation
Eustress
Stress that is perceived as beneficial and is caused by positive life events. ex: getting married
Distress
Stress is perceived to be detrimental and caused by negative life events. ex: death
General adaptation syndrome
Hans Selye, what does prolonged stress do to the body. 3 stages
Phase 1
Stressor occurs, alarm reaction, adrenaline and cortisol
Phase 2
Resistance, body is more tense than normal. Glucose releases
Phase 3
exhaustion. cortisol only

Approach 2x conflict
situation where an individual must choose between two positive choices
Avoidance 2x conflict
situation where there are two negative choices that a person must choose from
Approach avoidance conflict
Situation where there is one option but it has a negative and positive aspects to the outcome
Multiple avoidance approach conflict
situation is complex with two or more goals/options, each having a major p and n consequence
