Strengths of DCT Flashcards
Universal
The rules apply to anyone in any place at any time; this avoids the problem of trying to sort out different moral rules in different places at different times.
Clear and straightforward
What God says goes; there is no confusion as to what is right or wrong as it clearly gives set rules about morality.
Omnibenevolent + fair judge
God is holy and inherently good so his commands must also be good. God does not have the weakness of human judges due to his omniscience, so he is a totally fair judge.
Afterlife
The promise of life after death gives purpose to human morality, as there is an end goal to our actions here on earth.
Solves grounding problem
The grounding problem of ethics is the search for a foundation for our moral beliefs, something solid that would make them true in a way that is clear, objective, and unmoving. DCT solves this because God is the foundation for morality as it grounds our beliefs in the teachings of a factually existing God.
