Because she had gotten “mixed-up” with a seventeen year-old boy and his father hear and she was promptly fired. This lead to Blanche being kicked out of Laurel and was why she went to Stella in the first place. This was also set up previously with her kissing the paper boy.
What is Stanley proud of?
Stanley is proud of being “100 percent American” as well as being born and raised in “the greatest country on earth” he is also proud of being “the king” of the house, as he puts it.
What is significant about the Mexican Woman selling flowers?
The flowers described as being “gaudy tin flowers that lower class Mexicans display at funerals and other festive occasions.” said flowers are also a symbol of death which symbolises the death of Blanche and Mitch’s relationship.
What is significant about the song Blanche is singing?
The song is representing Blanche’s mind, the phase “But it wouldn’t be make-believe if you believed in me!” repeated throughout is significant as it represents the fact that, mentally, Blanche is living in an idealized version of the world where she is young and innocent again.
Why does Blanche react the way she does when Stanley gives her the bus ticket back to Laurel?
Blanche reacts the way she does because she is now going back to Laurel, the place she was kicked out of and now she is being kicked out of Elysian Fields and has nowhere to go.
What does Mitch means when he says “are you boxed out of your mind?” to Blanche?
Mitch has now heard about Blanche’s past and has come to confront her about it, but he realizes that Blanche isn’t making sense, she is apparently hearing music (the “Varaouviana” specifically) as well as a gunshot. Mitch can’t hear any of this and is now questioning her sanity.
