Because she was told to leave the town, which is why she came to Elysian Fields (and Stella) in the first place.

Because if they were together, then Blanche would have somewhere to go and not have to return to Laurel.
What do Blanche and Stella have in common?
They are both are tied down in a sense, Stella is married to Stanley and he has control of Stella, which she doesn’t seem to notice or mind, while Blanche has been kicked out of Laurel and has nowhere else to go. But unlike Stella as Blanche says “I’m going to do something. Get a hold of myself and make myself a new life!” She isn’t going to give up.
What does Blanche do the Paper Boy which foreshadows why she was told to leave Laurel?
Blanche gives the Paper Boy a kiss, what she says afterwards, “and keep my hands off children.” Also foreshadows what we learn later that she got “mixed up with” a seventeen-year-old boy and was fired.
Why does Blanche associate herself with light so much?
When she fell in love with Allan Grey, she thought “It was like you turned a blinding light on something that had always been half in shadow,” then when she found out he was gay, while at a casino dancing the “Varsouviana” she said to him, “I saw! I know! You disgust me!” Which caused Allan to run out of the casino and shoot himself. To Blanche, “the searchlight that had been turned on the world was turned off and never for one moment since has there been any light stronger than this” Since this, Blanche seeming didn’t want to be seen in the light again, but what she does afterwards seems to suggest otherwise, its possible that she didn’t think about it and was more focused on other things but it isn’t made very clear.
