Inequality
unequal rewards or opportunities for different individuals within a society (based on identity)
Wealth
an abundance of valuable possessions or money
Income
the money received by a person over time (salary, income…)
Ascribed status
a status one is born with or is given involuntarily
Achieved status
a status one gains as a result of personal effort
Bourgeoisie
the ruling class in society which own the means of production
Proletariat
the lowest class in society which sell their labour
Social mobility
the movement of individuals in social position/status over time
life chances
the opportunities that an individual has to share in the culture and material rewards a society has to offer
ageism
stereotypes, discrimination or prejudice towards other based on age
glass ceiling
the social barrier preventing women from being promoted
poverty
the lack of resources necessary for basic survival or to meet standards of living
absolute poverty
severe deprivation of basic human needs
