Features of restorative justice
- Restorative justice brings together victims and offenders in a meeting organised by a RJ facilitator.
- Restorative justice gives victims the chance to tell offenders the real impact of their crime, get answers to their questions and get an apology.
- Restorative justice holds offenders to account for what they have done. It helps them understand the real impact, take responsibility, and make amends.

- CBT/JETS
CBT is a powerful method of changing ingrained behaviour, JETS is a good example of this
Based on Ellis’ ABC model
A – the activating event that led to them committing the crime
B – negative belief that they are attaching to the event
C – negative consequences and feelings that happen as a result of the negative belief
The programme involves 25 sessions each lasting 2 ½ hours, split into 2 parts
1) Individual session – completing exercises in a workbook e.g. imagine you are at home and hear a loud noise what would you do?
2) Groups session – 6 people per groups focusing on supporting each other – this focuses their attention on their links to the community which in turn can help reduce crime rates
