Strategies for NP intervention and rehabilitation Flashcards
Cognitive stimulation
Activities aimed at improving overall cognitive
performance or any of its processes and components
NP Rehabilitation or Cognitive Rehabilitation
Involves restoring the patient’S situation to the highest possible level of functioning at physical, psychological, and social adaptation
Basic principles for NP Rehabilitation
Initiate Rehabilitation Early
Dynamic (attractive) + Active (implement independly) = Effective
Simplify the patient’s environment
Interdisciplinarity
Adaptation to the patient’s indiosyncrasy
Utilization of behavior modification techniques
Restoration and recovery
There can be a spontaneus recovery or a restoration through treatment.
Zhangwill reffered to three main approaches of rehabilitation:
Compensation, substitution and direct restoration
Restoration
Highest form of training
Seeks to retrain and reconstruct the function
Recovery is not always possible
Levels of intervention
Description of the process of
internalization of actions,
according to the plan, the stage,
and the object of the action
Material, perceptual y mental
Advantages of group work
It allows working on emotional needs and understanding and sharing problems with other patients who are going through the same situation.
Advantages:
-Improves social behavior
-Facilitates the recovery of functions
-Lower economic cost
-Facilitates the awareness of the problem
-The group is a context closer to the natural
-The group enhances psychological coping through sharing
Family Intervention
The family environment should be considered as an
active agent in the rehabilitation process.
Assuming treatment in a holistic manner.
It is important to pay attention to emotional problems, as well as the impact on the family.
The consequences of brain damage transcend
beyond the patient itself.
Brain damage necessitates the redefinition of roles
within the family context.
Stress levels increase among family members
