Straight Line Access Flashcards
What are the four steps to getting straight line access?
Access cavity, Find canals and negotiate, Pre-flare, Coronal canal prep
What instruments can you use to make the access cavity?
330, #1557, Endo-Z, #2 or #4 round
What are the objectives of the Access Cavity?
gain access to canal orifices, mid-root, or first curvature; de-roof the entire chamber; remove pulp chamber tissue; remove gross caries
What instruments can you use for finding the canals and negotiating them?
K-files: #6, 8, 10, or 15 by hand or file-holder. Use them for straight filing to the point of passive resistance
What are the objectives of Finding and negotiating canals?
identify all canals; maintain open canal in coronal 2/3; smooth canal; agitate irrigation solution to dissolve pulp tissue
What instruments should you use for Pre-flare?
Hedstrom: #15, 20, maybe 25. Circumferential filing.
What are the objectives of Pre-flare?
canal debridement; enlarge the orifice; reduce or remove triangular dentin to improve SLA to mid-root canal
What instruments do you use for Coronal canal prep?
Gate-glidden burs #4, 3, 2 or the BR-0 rotary bur (#25/.08 taper)
What are the objectives of the coronal canal prep?
enlarge the orifice; enlarge coronal canal to the mid-root size of #70 file; remove cervical triangular dentin; improve accuracy of working length by removing any mid-root interferences; improve the depth of irrigation solution penetration
