Stomas Flashcards
end ileostomy
RIGHT
distal ileum is brought out to the skin surface and forms a stoma
panproctocolectomy for UC and FAP or emergency situations such as severe intra abdominal sepsis
what is an ileostomy?
RIF
artificial opening made int he small intestine to divert content to the exterior of the body and allow for these to be collected in an appliance of some sort. content are in liquid form
colostomies
sutured flush to the skin
loop ileostomy
stoma involving the small intestine where a loop is brought to eh surface through the abdominal wall
both the proximate dn distal ends of the ileum opening into the same stoma without being completely transected
temporary and done for distal anastomosis to heal then can be reversed
loop colostomy
LUQ
large bowel
entered loop of bowel is brought out to the skin surface through abdominal wall
proximal drains faeces and distal drains mucus
temp for debunking to protect distal anastomosis
or to relieve distal obstruction from colorectal cancer
end colostomy
involves the large bowel usually on L side of abdomen or LIF.
usually permanent
proximal loop of colon is brought to the surface
blind loop, stapled during the operation and left in the abdomen pelvis
mucous fistula
can be located anywhere on the surface of the abdomen. most commonly LIF and involves single lumen of bowel brought to the surface to collect mucus produced in the distal part of the bowel.
