CHENGQI ST-1
Category: Meeting point of the Stomach channel with the Yang Motility and Conception vessels
Location: With the eyes looking directly forwards, this point is located directly below the pupil between the eyeball and the infraorbital ridge.
Action: Benefits the eyes and stops lacrimation, eliminates wind and clears heat
Indication: All eye problems: redness, swelling and pain of the eye, tearing, night blindness, twitching of the eyelids; facial paralysis.
*ST-1 is one of the two most important local point for the eyes (the other being UB-1*
SIBAI ST-2
Category: N/A
Location: With the eyes looking directly forwards, this point is located 1 cun directly below the pupil, in the depression at the infraorbital foramen.
Action: Eliminates wind, clears heat and benefits the eyes
Indication: Redness, pain and itching of the eye, facial paralysis, twitching of the eyelids, pain in the face.
*Can use as a substitute for ST-1
JULIAO ST-3
Cateogry: N/A
Location: With the eyes looking directly forwards, this point is located directly below the pupil, level with the lower border of the ala nasi, on the lateral side of the naso-labial groove.
Action: Eliminates wind, dissipates swelling and alleviates pain
Indication: Facial paralysis, twitching of the eyelids, nosebleed, sinus pain, toothache, swelling of the lips and cheek.
DICANG ST-4
Category: Meeting point of the Stomach and Large Intestine channels with the Yang Motility and Conception vessels
Location: 0.4 cun lateral to the corner of the mouth.
Action: Eliminates wind from the face, activates the channel and alleviates pain
Indication: Deviation of the mouth, salivation, trigeminal neuralgia, twitching of eyelids.
DAYlNG ST-5
Category: N/A
Location: Directly anterior to the angle of the jaw, in a depression at the anterior border of the masseter muscle.
Action: Eliminates wind and reduces swelling
Indication: Facial paralysis, tetany, swelling of the cheek, pain in the face, toothache of the lower jaw.
JIACHE ST-6
Cateogry: Sun Si-miao Ghost point
Location: Approximately 1 fingerbreadth anterior and superior to the angle of the jaw at the prominence of the masseter muscle.
Action: Eliminates wind and benefits the jaw and teeth, activates the channel, alleviates pain
Indication: Facial paralysis, toothache, swelling of the cheek and face, mumps, tetany.
*One of two main local points for jaw problems
XIAGUAN ST-7
Category: Meeting point of the Stomach and Gall Bladder channels
Location: At the lower border of the zygomatic arch, in the depression anterior to the condyloid process of the mandible.
Action: Benefits the ears, jaw and teeth, activates the channel and alleviates pain
Indication: Deafness, tinnitus, ear pain, itching and purulent discharge from the ear, toothache, TMJ syndrome, facial paralysis, facial pain, motor impairment of the jaw.
*One of the two main local points for Jaw problems (along with ST-6)*
TOUWEI ST-8
Category: Meeting point of the Stomach and Gall Bladder channels with the Yang Linking vessel
Location: At the corner of the forehead, 4.5 cun lateral to Shéntíng DU-24 and 0.5 cun within the anterior hairline.
Action: Eliminates wind and alleviates pain, benefits the eyes
Indication: Headache, dizziness, blurring of vision, eye pain, tearing.
*An important point to treat headaches and dizziness.*
RENYlNG ST-9
Category: Meeting point of the Stomach and Gall Bladder channels, Point of the Window of Heaven, Point of the Sea of Qi
Location: Level with the tip of and 1.5 cun lateral to the laryngeal prominence, in the depression between the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the lateral border of the thyroid cartilage.
Action: Regulates qi and blood and lowers rebellion, benefits the throat and neck, alleviates pain
Indication: Sore throat, asthma, goiter, dizziness, flushing of the face, hypertension, hypotension.
SHUITU ST-10
Category: N/A
Location: On the neck, at the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, midway between Rényíng ST-9 and Qìshè ST-11.
Action: Benefits the throat and neck, descends Lung qi
Indication: Sore throat, asthma, cough, goiter.
*EAV uses to measure thyroid functioning; not much used in TCM*
QISHE ST-11
Category: N/A
Location: At the root of the neck, superior to the medial end of the clavicle, directly below Rényíng ST-9 in the depression between the sternal and clavicular heads of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Action: Benefits the throat and neck and descends qi
Indication: Sore throat, pain and rigidity of the neck, asthma, hiccup, goiter.
*JA: Phrenic nerve reflex; EAV: measures thymus functioning*
QUEPEN ST-12
Category: Meeting point of ST, LI, SI, SJ & GB channels
Location: In the supraclavicular area, posterior to the superior border of the clavicle and at its midpoint, 4 cun lateral to the midline, on the mamillary line.
Action: Descends Lung qi and clears heat from the chest, activates the channel and alleviates pain
Indication: Cough, asthma, sore throat, pain in the supraclavicular fossa, pain and motor impairment of arm.
*Contraindicated for Pregnancy*
QIHU ST-13
Cateogry: N/A
Location: At the top of the chest, directly below Quēpén ST-12, on the inferior border of the clavicle, 4 cun lateral to the midline, on the mamillary line.
Action: Descends rebellious qi and unbinds the chest
Indication: Fullness in the chest, asthma, cough, hiccup, pain in the chest and hypochondrium, stiffness of the neck with inability to turn the head.
KUFANG ST-14
Category: N/A
Location: On the chest, in the first intercostal space, 4 cun lateral to the midline (Huágài REN-20), on the mamillary line.
Action: Descends rebellious qi and unbinds the chest
Indication: Sensation of fullness and pain in the chest, cough.
WUYI ST-15
Category: N/A
Location: On the chest, in the second intercostal space, 4 cun lateral to the midline (Zǐgōng REN-19), on the mamillary line.
Action: Descends rebellious qi and unbinds the chest, benefits the breasts, alleviates pain and itching of the skin
Indication: Fullness and pain in the chest and costal region, cough, asthma, generalised itching, mastitis.
YINGCHUANG ST-16
Category: N/A
Location: On the chest, in the third intercostal space, 4 cun lateral to the midline (Yùtáng REN-18), on the mamillary line.
Action: Alleviates cough and wheezing, benefits the breasts
Indication: Fullness and pain in the chest and hypochondrium, cough, asthma, mastitis.
RUZHONG ST-17
Category: N/A
Location: At the centre of the nipple, in the fourth intercostal space, 4 cun lateral to the midline.
Contraindicated for needling and moxibustion.
RUGEN ST-18
Category: N/A
Location: Directly below the nipple, in the fifth intercostal space.
Action: Benefits the breasts and reduces swelling, unbinds the chest and alleviates cough and wheezing
Indication: Mastitis, chest pain, cough, asthma, insufficient lactation, difficult labor.
