Stomach Flashcards
What type of epithelium is found in the stomach?
Columnar
What do foveolar cells produce?
- Mucin
- Gastric surfactant
What is the function of gastric surfactant?
Sits on top of mucin which protects the stomach from any charged molecules
What cells line gastric pits?
- Parietal cells
- ECL cells
- Chief cells
- Mucous cells
What is the function of parietal cells?
Release HCl
What is the function of ECL cells?
Release histamine to cause parietal cells to produce HCl
What is the function of chief cells?
Release pepsinogen
What is the function of mucous cells?
Release mucin
What cells are in the antrum of the stomach?
G-cells
D-cells
NO PARIETAL CELLS
What is the function of G-cells?
Releases gastrin which stimulates parietal cells to release HCl
What is the function of D-cells?
Releases somatostatin which inhibits parietal cell release of HCl
