Stomach Flashcards
what is the stomach?
an intraperitoneal digestive organ between the oesophagus and the duodenum
what is the anatomical positin of the soamhc?
in a supine patient it is mainly in the hypochondriac, epigastric and umbilical regions
where is the cardia?
surrounding the superior opening of the stomach
at T11
what is the fundus?
a rounded, often gas filled, portion of the stomach
superior and left of the cardia
what is the stomach body?
the central large portion
inferior to the fundus
what is the pylorus?
the bit that connects the duodenum and the stomach
what is the pylorus split into?
pyloric antrum
pyloric canal
pyloric sphincter
wat vertebral level is the pyloric plane at?
L1
what is the greater curvature?
it forms the long, convex, lateral border of the stomach
what is the position of the greater curvature?
arises from the cardiac notch
arches backwards and passes inferiorly to the left
curved to the right and continues medially to reach the pyloric antrum
what is the greater curvature supplied by?
short gastric arteries
right and left gastro-mental arteries
what is the lesser curvature?
forms the shorter, concave, medial surface of the stomach
what is the most inferior part of the lesser curvature?
incisura angularis
what does the incisura angular is of the lesser curvature indicate?
the junction of the stomach body and pyloric region
what does the lesser curvature give attachment to?
the hepatogastric ligament
what is the lesser curvature supplied by?
left gastric artery
right gastric branch of the common hepatic artery
what is the gastro-oesophageal junction?
an abrupt change from the stratified squamous epithelium of the oesophagus to simple columnar epithelium of the cardia
what does the pyloric sphincter do?
controls the flow of why,e from the stomach to the duodenum
smooth muscle = autonomic
where does the arterial supply to the stomach come from?
the celiac trunk and its branches
what do the right and left gastric arteries run along?
the lesser curvature
anastomose together
where does the right gastric artery arise from?
it is a branch of the common hepatic artery
where does the left gastric artery come from?
it arises directly form the celiac trunk
where do the left and right gastro-omental arteries run along?
the greater curvature
anastomose together
where does the left gastro-mental artery arise from?
it is a branch from the splenic artery
where does the right gastro-mental artery arise from?
it is the terminal branch of the gastroduodenal artery
where does the right and left gastric veins drain into?
the splenic vein
which then further drains into the hepatic portal vein
where does the short gastric and right and left gastro-mental veins drain into?
ultimately the superior mesenteric vein
what is the parasympathetic innervation of the stomach?
vagus nerve
via the vagal trunk
what is the sympathetic innervation of the stomahc?
coeliac plexus
via the greater splanchnic nerve
where to the gastric and gastro-omental lymph nodes drain into?
the coelic lymph nodes
