Stoichiometry Flashcards
How to find number of ATP for 1 mole of a saturated fatty acid?
Step 1
Figure out how many rounds of beta oxidation = Carbons/2 - 1
Figure out how many CAC turns = Carbons/2
P/O ratios: FADH2=1.5ATP and NADH=2.5ATP
How to find number of ATP for 1 mole of a saturated acid?
Step 2 - beta oxidation ATP
= 1 NADH produced x (rounds of beta oxidation) x 2.5
= 1 FADH2 produced x (rounds of beta oxidation) x 1.5
How to find number of ATP for 1 mole of a saturated acid?
Step 3 - CAC cycle ATP
= 3 NADH per turn x (CAC turns) x 2.5
= 1 FADH2 per turn x (CAC turns) x 1.5
= 1 ATP per turn x (CAC turns)
How to find number of ATP for 1 mole of a saturated acid?
Step 4 - total
Add up all generated ATP from steps 1 and 2
How to find number of ATP for 1 mole of glucose to CO2 and H2O? (glucose->glycolysis->pyruvate dehydrogenase->CAC->completely oxidized)
Step 1 - glycolysis (2 turns in the payoff phase)
= 1 NADH x 2 turns x 1.5 (g3p shuttle) or 2.5 (malate shuttle) = 3 or 5
= 2 ATP used x 2 turns = 4
= 2 ATP used = -2
How to find number of ATP for 1 mole of glucose to CO2 and H2O?
Step 2 - pyruvate dehydrogenase
= 1 NADH x 2 turns = 5
How to find number of ATP for 1 mole of glucose to CO2 and H2O?
Step 3 - CAC cycle
= 3 NADH per turn x 2 turns x 2.5 (malate shuttle) = 15
= 1 FADH2 per turn x 2 turns x 1.5 (g3p shuttle) = 3
= 1 ATP per turn x 2 turns = 2
How to find number of ATP for 1 mole of glucose to CO2 and H2O?
Step 4 - Total
30 (g3p shuttle used in glycolysis)
or
32 (malate shuttle used in glycolysis)
