Stoichiometric Relationships Flashcards
What is a gas to a solid?
deposition
What is a solid to a gas?
sublimation
What is a homogenous mixture?
A homogenous mixture has the same (uniform) composition throughout the mixture and consists of only one phase.
What is a heterogenous mixture?
A heterogenous mixture does not have uniform composition and consists of separate phases. They can be separated by chemical means. E.g. sand in a beaker.
What is relative atomic mass?
The relative atomic mass of an element is the average of the masses of the isotopes in a naturally occurring sample of the element relative to the mass of 1/12 of an atom of carbon-12.
How many atoms are there in a mole?
6.02x10^23 AVOGADROS CONSTANT
What is Avogadro’s constant?
It is the number of atoms in a mole.
How do you calculate molar mass?
Times the number of moles by Avogadro’s constant.
What is an ideal gas?
Equal volumes of ideal gases measured at the same temperature and pressure contain the same number of molecules.
What are the assumptions we make about ideal gases?
- The molecules themselves have no volume
2. No forces exist between these molecules
What is standard temperature and pressure?
273 K and 100Kpa
What is the molar volume of a gas at STP?
22.7
How do you work out the number of moles of a gas?
Volume/molar volume
What is the conversion between Celsius and Kelvin?
Degrees = kelvin - 273
What is the relationship between pressure and volume of ideal gases?
At constant temperature, the volume of a fixed mass of an idea gas is inversely proportional to its pressure.
