Stochastic and Nonstochastic Radiation Effects Flashcards
1
Q
How does stochastic effects occur?
A
Occur as a direct function of dose. (does not have dose threshold) ex: cancer, induction, and genetic mutations.
2
Q
What are Nonstochastic effects?
A
Are somatic effects that have a threshold and that increase in severity with increasing absorbed dose. ex: erythema, loss of hair, cataract formation, and decreased fertility. (Nonstochastic effects require larger radiation doses to cause serious impairment of health.)
