2
Q
What is a pacinian corpuscle?
A
Pressure receptors
3
Q
Where are pacinian corpuscles found?
A
Deep in the skin, at the ends of sensory neurone axons.
4
Q
Describe the structure of a pacinian corpuscle
A
Like an onion, layers are separated by a gel which contains positively charged sodium ions. (Na+)
5
Q
How do pacinian corpuscles work?
A
When the pacinian corpuscles are stimulated by pressure, this causes the sodium channels to stretch and deform and open to allow Na+ to enter the sensory neurone
