Steps in selecting the most appropriate statistical test Flashcards
What is the 3 criteria you need to workout to suggest why the test you have elected is appropriate?
- Is it a test of difference(between two variables) or association/ correlation(what is the relationship?)
- Which experimental design has been used? (repeated measures etc)
- Which level of measurement is it? (Nominal etc)
Which test do you use if its a repeated measures design with a nominal level of measurement?
Sign Test
Which test do you use if its a repeated measures design with an ordinal level of measurement?
Wilcoxon
Which test do you use if its a repeated measures design with an interval level of measurement?
Related t-test
Which test do you use if it’s an independent groups design with a nominal level of measurement?
Chi squared
Which test do you use if it’s an independent groups design with an ordinal level of measurement?
Mann Whitney U
Which test do you use if it’s an independent groups design with an interval level of measurement?
Unrelated t-test
Which test do you use if it’s a correlation design with a nominal level of measurement?
Chi squared
Which test do you use if it’s a correlation design with an ordinal level of measurement?
Spearman’s Rho
Which test do you use if it’s a correlation design with an interval level of measurement?
Pearson’s r
