STEPS IN QUANTITATIVE DATA preparation Flashcards
Steps in QUANTItative Data Preparation ( D.D.C.H )
1.Data Entry
2. Data Cleaning
3. Coding of Data
4. Handling Missing Data
Transfer responses from “ questionaires, online forms, or experiments into a DATABASE
Data Entry
Most common tool used: MS Excel , in preparation for SPSS transfer and analysis
Data Entry
● “Inconsistent” entries ( A recorded for age)
● Duplicates ( same data repeated )
● Outliers ( extreme values that might skew analysis )
Data Cleaning
Example: For a weight dataset, “400 kg” may need investigation
Data Cleaning
Example:
Gender: 1 = Female , 2 = Male , 3 = Other
Marital status: 1 single, 2 = Married , 3 = Divorced
“Coding” of Data
Convert “CATEGORICAL” Responses ( gender, marital status) into NUMERICAL values for easier analysis.
CODING OF DATA
Example: If a respondent left a “question blank”, fhe average response from similar participants can be used.
