Stem Cells II Flashcards
What does the presence of OX4 in a stem cell culture indicate?
The presence of this protein indicates that a stem cell is not yet differentiated
How are stem cells applied in vivo in lab settings?
A stem cell culture is grown and differentiated, injected into a living subject, the biological response is measured
What is the HFEA?
A federal ESC authority in the UK that approves the use of ESC in research
What methods do iPSC organoids enable researchers to do?
These experimental structures allow modelling of tissue physiology and disease, including malignant, hereditary and infectious diseases
What is an organoid?
This is a multi-layer, 3D aggregate of differentiating ESCs, toward a particular organ model
To what type of research are SC organoids especially applicable?
Disease research!
