Q

What are some Qualities of Low Carbon?

A
  • %Carbon < 0.25%
  • Good Strength
  • Good Ductility (easy to deform)
  • Structural steel section
  • Sheet metal
  • Cheap
(Not hardened by heat treatment) (heating and quenching)

Q

What are some Qualities of Medium Carbon?

A
  • %Carbon 0.25%-0.6%
  • Stronger but harder to deform and cut
  • Used for machine parts (gears, shafts, camshafts…)
(Responds to hardening by heat treatment)
