Deformation Flashcards
What is the Elastic Deformation Region?
It is the 0 to 1 region where the material can be deformed and when released will return back to its original configuration.
What is the Yield Point?
Is the point on a stress-strain curve that indicates the limit of elastic behavior and the beginning of plastic behavior/deformation (1)
What is Plastic Deformation?
A process in which the object due to applied force changes its size or shape in a way that is not reversible (1 to 3)
What is Uniform Plastic Deformation?
Uniform flow of the metal material and no change in its volume
(1 to 2)
What is the Necking Point?
Indicated by a reduction in the cross-sectional area of the specimen. Necking begins after ultimate strength is reached. During necking, the material can no longer withstand the maximum stress and the strain in the specimen rapidly increases. (2)
What is Rupture?
The breaking point of the sample. (3)
What is Ductility?
The ability of the material to deform plastically without fracture.
What is Isotrophy?
A quality that defines the uniformity of its properties regardless of the direction in which they are measured (?)
What is Cold Working?
The deformation of a metal at a temperature below the recrystallization temperature.
What is Recrystallization Temperature?
The temperature above grain and other infernal microstructural features can rearrange themselves to reduce internal energy and defects introduced by deformation.
