What does it respond well to?

A

Single cell protozoan parasite

Infects vagina and urethra

Symptoms- dysuria, discharge

Cause frothy discharge and “strawberry cervix”

Responds well to metronidazole

Syphilis

A

First stage - Primary Syphilis

  • painless. can also have some enlarged glands
  • may resolve in 2-8 wks

Secondary Stage

  • lasts 2-4 weeks
  • blotchy red rash, flu like symptoms
  • systemic dissemination
  • flu-like rashes
  • mouth ulcers
  • suspect if rash involves palms + sores

  • painful ulceration, dysuria, vaginal discharge
  • system symptoms e.g. fever and myalgia

Signs

  • blistering + ulceration
  • inguinal lymphadenopathy

Genital herpes- mainly HSV-2
HSV-1- cold sores but not always

symptomes- itchy, discharge, swelling

Treatment- topical antifungals

  • imbalance of vaginal flora
  • overgrowth of anaerobes
  • often result of over-washing/bubble baths etcs

responds to metronidazole
