members of nitroimidazole, nitro group is reduced in anaerobic bacteria–> reactive products–> antimicrobial activity

AE:thrombophlebitis after IV

methylthiotetrazole group–> disulfiram like rx with EtOH.Can also inhibit vit.K and prolong bleeding
