acute febrile rx with headache and myalgia that occurs within 24 hours after tx.
may induce early labor or cause fetal distress in pregnant women
trichomoniasis
metronidazole or tinidazole
members of nitroimidazole, nitro group is reduced in anaerobic bacteria–> reactive products–> antimicrobial activity
pt should abstain from EtOH
bacterial vaginosis
metronidazole PO or metronidazole gel or clindamycin cream
clindamycin cream not recommended for pregnant women
PID (parental)
cefotetan or cefoxitin+doxycycline
cefoxitine and cefotetan are 2 generation cephalosporins(cephamycin).used for surgical prophylaxis in abd surgery and abd and pelvic infx
AE:thrombophlebitis after IV
methylthiotetrazole group–> disulfiram like rx with EtOH.Can also inhibit vit.K and prolong bleeding
PID (oral)
levofloxacin or ofloxacin with or without metronidazole
AE:GI upset,photosens,headache
prolong QT,arthralgia and tendon rupture
herpes
acyclovir
