stats 2-4 Flashcards
STATS 2-4
scatter plot
the ordered pairs are graphed as points in a coordinate plane; x on horizontal axis, y on vertical axis. used to show the relationship between two quantitative variables
STATS 2-4
Time-series graph
Graph of quantitative data that have been collected at different points in time such as hourly, weekly or monthly
STATS 2-4
dot plot
a graph in which each data value is plotted as a point or dot along a horizontal scale of values.
STATS 2-4
stemplot
represents quantitative data by separating each value into two parts: the stem (the left most value) and the leaf (the right most digit.) stemplots are a good way to sort data.
STATS 2-4
bar graph
uses bars of equal width to show frequencies of categories of categorical (qualitative) data.
vertical scale shows frequencies or relative frequencies. The horizontal scale shows different qualitative data.
STATS 2-4
multiple bar graph
has 2 or more sets of bars and is used to compare 2 or more data sets.
STATS 2-4
pie chart
graph that depicts categorical data as slices of a circle in which the size of each slice is proportional to the frequency count for that category.
STATS 2-4
frequency polygon
uses line segments connected to points directly above class midpoint values.
STATS 2-4
Ogive
depicts cumulative frequencies. An Ogive uses class boundaries along the horizontal scale and cumulative frequencies along the vertical scale.
STATS 2-4
Non zero axis
bad graph, can make graph decieving
STATS 2-4
pictographs
often misleading because data that are one dimensional are shown in a 2 dimensional or three dimensional images, such as dollar bills, money bags, or coins.
