What is the mode
It is the value that occurs most often
What is the median
It is the middle value when the data values are put in order
What is the formula for mean
Sum of the data value / number of data values
What are the uses of mode
Used when data is qualitative or quantitative
Not very informative if each value occurs only once
What are the uses of median
This is used for quantitative data
Used when there are extreme values
What are the uses of mean
Used for quantitative data and uses all pieces of data
Gives a true measure of data
Effected by extreme values
What is the equation for mean in a frequency table
The sum of the products of the data values and frequency’s / Sum of frequencies
What are quartiles
Ways that data can be split up
Lower quartile is a quarter
Upper quartile is three quarters
What are percentiles
This splits up data into 100 parts
How do you find the lower quartile and upper quartile
Divide the number of data values by 4
Find 3/4 of the number of data values
What is variance
Another measure of spread of data
What is the equation for variance
The sum of the squared values/number of data values - the mean squared
What is standard deviation
The square root of the variance
What is coding
It is a way of simplifying calculations
When coding for standard deviation, what part of the coding don’t you do
Any addition or subtraction
Only multiply and divide so the deviation stays the same
