Statistics Flashcards
When looking at variables in qualitative data what can they be divided into?
Ordinal or nominal
Numeric data (quantitative) variables can be?
Discrete or continuous
What are confounding variables?
Variables which the researcher failed to control or eliminate, damaging the internal validity of an experiment
Is random sampling a source of bias in a study?
No
What is precision?
Describes how well repeated observations agree with one another and is measured by sampling error.
Is it possible to have bias with precision?
Yes! It is a consistent tendency to over or under estimate a quantity and still have a precise estimate
If the data is quantitative which two forms can the variables be?
Discrete or continuous
If the data can be put in a meaningful order what two categories could the variables be?
Categorical nominal or categorical binary
If the variable is nominal and only had the answers yes or no what is it’s further classification?
Binary
If the data can be put in a meaningful order what is it’s classification?
Categorical ordinal
Define prevalence probability…
The probability of having disease D at a given time point
What is incidence probability?
The probability of getting disease D during a specified time period
