Categorical data
Used for words e.g. hair colour
Nominal data
Nominal categorical data can’t be ordered
Discrete data
Numbers that can only have a certain values e.g. shoe size
Continuous
Continuous data is data that could have any value within a certain range e.g. your age
Ordered data
Data that can be put in order
Primary data
Collected by or for the person that is going to use it e.g. survey or experiment
Secondary information
Not collected by the person who is going to use it e.g population census
Population
The entire group being studied
Sample
A group that is selected from the population
Frequency tables
Use of a tally to get frequencies
Line plots
Dots or x’s in vertical lines evenly spaced
Bar charts
Frequency on vertical axis, columns must be of equal width. lalle axis using ruler, for discrete data
Pie charts
Full circle - 360°
