Statistics 4 - Hypothesis testing Flashcards
How is the mean for a Poisson distribution tested for?
To carry out a hypothesis test for the mean of a Poisson distribution, you form two hypotheses;
The null hypothesis, H₀:λ=𝑚 is the value of the mean that you assume to be true.
The alternative hypothesis, H₁, tells you about the value of the mean if your assumption is shown to be wrong.
How would the critical regions for a Poisson distribution be found?
A one-tailed test has an alternative hypothesis H₁:θ
How is the parameter, p̰, of a geometric distribution tested for?
To carry out a hypothesis test for the parameter, 𝑝, of a geometric distribution you form two hypotheses.
The null hypothesis, H₀:𝑝=𝑚 is the value of 𝑝 that you assume to be true.
The alternative hypothesis, H₁, tells you about the value of 𝑝 if your assumption is shown to be wrong.
