Statistical Tests Flashcards
What is a type 1 error?
False positive - when researchers conclude that an effect is real, but it’s actually not
What is a type 2 error?
False negative - when researchers conclude there is no effect, but there actually is a real effect
What are the 3 Ds?

Data
Difference
What is nominal data?
Tallies of discrete categories (e.g. breeds of dog: 8 pugs, 2 poodles etc.)
What is ordinal data?
Whole numbers that can be ordered (e.g. ranking your mood on a scale of 1-10)
What is interval data?
Standardised units of measurement (e.g. kg, cm, seconds)
Which experimental designs are related?
Repeated measures
Matched pairs
Which experimental design is unrelated?
Independent groups
