Q

What are the divisions of the LCA?

A

LCA divides immediately into the LAD and circumflex artery

LAD in the anterior IV septum, gives rise to diagonal branch.

Circulflex artery runs along the left coronary sulcus gives rise to left marginal branch

Circumflex continues to the posterior portion of the AV groove to give rise to the PDA in 15% of cases

Q

What are the divisions of the RCA?

A

RCA runs along the Right AV groove, gives rise of a right marginal branch

Continues to the posterior AV groove and gives rise to the PDA in 85% of cases

Q

What views are coronary angiograms taken from?

A

RAO: Right Anterior Oblique - x-rays are directed from the right/anterior side, pass through the heart, and strike the film on the left/posterior side of the patient

LAO: Left Anterior Oblique - x-rays are directed from the left/anterior side, pass through the heart, and strike the film of the right/posterior side of the patient

Q

Where is the catheter used to obtain coronary angiograms usually inserted?

What course does it take to reach the origins of the RCA and LCA

A

Femoral artery.

Courses up the femoral artery, into the common iliac artery, into the abdominal aorta, into the descending aorta, through the arch of aorta, down the ascending aorta to the aortic sinus where the L and R coronary arteries originate
