Static Electricity Flashcards
What is charge, its symbol and its unit?
Charge is a property of an object that describes how positive or negative an object is. its symbol is q and is measured in C (Coloumbs).
Do Electrons have a charge of -1.6 x 10^-19 C?
yes.
Do Electrons have a charge of 1.6 x 10^-19 C?
yes.!
Symbol and unit for electric field strength
E, N/C or V/m
Symbol and unit for Voltage
V, V (Volts)
Symbol and unit for Distance
D, m
Symbol and unit for Charge
q, C
Symbol and unit for electric potential energy
Ep, J
How is an electric field formed?
Through a charge or source charge that generates an electric field around itself.
How do you draw electric field lines in an electric field and around charges?
The lines should point away from the positive and out in all directions for a radial charge, and in lines with curved lines on each side for a uniform electric field.
How do you calculate electric field strength (and voltage or distance between two plates of a uniform electric field?)
By using E = V/d.
How do you calculate force on a charge in an electric field? (and Electric field strength or charge).
F = Eq
How do you find the change in Electric potential energy?
Ep = Eqd
How do u calculate kinetic energy?
Ek = 1/2mv^2 or 2Ek = mv^2
what is d in Ep = Eqd?
Distance from the oppositely charged plate
