Static and Dynamic Pressure Flashcards
What is static pressure?
The pressure from the atmosphere experience by an object (predominantly noticed when they are stationary but can happen if you are moving with a fluid).
What is dynamic pressure
It is the addition pressure experience when an object is in motion.
What does ASI stand for?
Airspeed Indicator
What does the ASI look like?
Google a photo if you can’t remember
Airspeed is proportional to?
dynamic pressure
Measuring and displaying the airspeed requires what and how is this done?
the measurement of the dynamic pressure exerted on the aircraft as it moves through the air. This is done by the Pitot Static system that is connected to the ASI.
Pitot Static system has a what located on the aircraft in such a position so that it is sitting in the free stream relative airflow.
pitot tube
What does the pitot tube measure and where is it located?
total pressure on the front of the aircraft, which is a combination of both static and dynamic pressure. On most aircraft this is located on the underside of the wing or on the side of the nose. to be sitting in the free stream relative airflow
What does the static port measure and where is it located?
The static port is located flush with the skin of the fuselage, which measures just static pressure.
What is the equation for Dynamic pressure (indicated Airspeed)?
Total Pressure - Static Pressure = Dynamic Pressure (Indicated Airspeed).
The ASI can be calibrated to read correctly for only one density/altitude, which is usually?
mean sea level and 15° C.
