States Of Matter Flashcards
What are the 3 things forces of attraction are dependent on?
Dependent on:
1) Material
2) Temperature
3) Pressure
State the 3 properties of solids
1) Strong FOA between particles, holds close together in fixed positions forming very regular lattice arrangement
2) Particles don’t move, have definite shape + volume
3) Particles vibrate, hotter solid → more vibration, more expaning
State the 3 properties of liquids
1) Weak FOA between particles. Randomly arranged, free to move past each other, stay close together
2) Definite volume, NO definite shape, fill bottom of container
3) Particles move in random motion. Hotter liquid → faster move + expand
State and explain the 3 different properties of gases
1) FOA between particles very weak. Free to move + far apart. Particles travel in straight lines
2) NO definite, No definite volume. Fill any container
3) Particles move with random motion. Hotter → faster, expand, pressure increases
