States Of Matter Flashcards
What do you call the process of GAS turning into LIQUID?
Condensation/condensing
What do you call the process of LIQUID turning into GAS?
Evaporation/evaporating
Boling
What do you call the process of a SOLID turning into LIQUID?
Melting
What do you call the process of LIQUID turning into SOLID?
Freezing
What is the difference between BOILING and EVAPORATION?
Boiling is when the particles leave from all parts of the liquid, whereas evaporation is when particles leave from the surface of the liquid.
What is DEPOSITION?
Deposition is when a gas goes straight into the solid state (and skips the liquid stage). The particles will slow down and come closer together, forming a solid state. To skip the liquid state, the particles have to slow down really quickly.
What is DISSOLVING?
Dissolving is when a solid is put into boiling water and it turns into liquid.
What things can DISSOLVE?
Some things that can dissolve are:
- jelly
- sugar
- salt
- coffee
What is DIFFUSION?
Diffusion is the movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration.
