What is a statement?

A

a representation of fact or opinion made by a person by whatever means, and it includes a representation made in sketch, photofit or other pictorial form

What are the reasons for writing statements?

A
  • Examination in court
  • Assist refreshment of the memory
  • Aid with senior officers/ crown prosecution decision making
  • Not necessary for the witness to attend court
  • Say how the victim was affected by the crime
