Northern Democrats wanted each territory to vote for slavery while southern Democrats thought slavery should automatically be allowed.

Manifest Destiny led to the U.S.-Mexican War because America wanted to expand west, but the land was owned by Mexico.

Polk declared war on Mexico when 11 American soldiers where killed on American soil.
Who was Zachary Taylor and what did he do?
He was an American General who led soldiers to capture the capitol of Mexico.
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo:
U.S. Gets - Rio Grande as the border and they get all of far Northwest Mexico.
Mexico Gets - U.S. pays them 15 million and Mexico accepts that Texas is apart of the U.S.
What areas are included in Mexico Cession?
California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming.
