What is the purpose of SU?
Do we have a viable and worthwile project?
Difference between SU and IP?
SU = do we have viable and worthwile project?
IP = Understanding the work to be done and commitment of spend before we start.
Roles and responibilities within SU?
Project mandate = Corporate
Exec = carry out activities within SU
What should mandate include as minimum?
Project idea
Name the exec
Optional = project scope, purpose, name of exec, key constraints.
What logs need to be created?
Daily Log = track activities on a daily basis.
Lessons Log = capture lessons from previous projects
Can be combined into a daily log.
Who is responsible for the creation of the business case?
Executive, but PM may contribute.
Who might be the senior supplier as default?
Purchasing manager?
Contracts manager?
What happens when selecting the project approach and assembling the project brief?
Project brief contains project approach as well as the business case and the Project Product Description (which contains the acceptance criteria).
What is the last thing to happen during the end of the SU stage?
Plan the initiation stage by creating a stage plan.
Then requesting the approval of the Project board.
What are the SU objectives?
- Create an outline business case providing sufficient business justification to start the IP process.
- Sound assumptions are in place (scope, timescales, acceptance criteria and constraints).
- Project brief adequately defines and confirms project scope.
- All roles have appropriate individuals appointed for the IP stage.
- Project approach contains the way in which the project will be delivered, with a selected approach.
- Initiation stage plan is created.
- All roles and authorities are in place.
Which roles can be shares?
Executive may take on role of senior user.
PM and exec may NOT combine.
Who is project assurance the responsibility of?
Project board.
Exectives responsible for business assurance.
Senior User responsible for user assurance.
Senior supplier responsible for supplier assurance.
Assurance = audit.
What do we use to create the outline business case?
Lessons Log
Project mandate
Who is responsible for drafting outline business case?
Exective or Senior User.
Who creates project product description?
PM. With consultation from PB.
