Stars Flashcards
What is the sequence of a star the same size as our sun?
Proto star
Main sequence star
Red giant
White dwarf star
Black dwarf star
What is the sequence of a star much bigger than our sun?
Proto star
Main sequence star
Red super giant
Supernova
Neutron star or black hole
What happens after a proto star is hot and dense enough?
Nuclear fusion begins and it becomes a main sequence star
What happens when core hydrogen runs out?
Core helium burning begins and it becomes a supernovae
What happens when core helium runs out.
It heats until a heavier element is ignited in a shell and in the core. This cycle continues until the star is ready to collapse
What happens when a star is ready to collapse
The star collapses and an explosion happens called a supernova
What happens after a supernova?
The star becomes a neutron star or (if the star is big enough) it can become a black hole
