Space Exploration Flashcards
What is geostationary orbit?
When a satelite stays above the same place on earth and takes 24 hours to orbit the earth
What is LEO orbit?
A satelite that orbits the earth in 128 minutes or under
What is low polar orbit?
Polar orbits are a type of low Earth orbit, as they are at low altitudes between 200 to 1000 km however they go over the poles
What forces keep the satelite going around the earth
Velocity and gravitational pull
What are geostationary satelites used for?
communications, satelite TV, weather forcasting, inteligence , global positioning system
What are polar orbit satelites used for?
large-scale mapping and global weathermonitoring.
What are Low earth orbit (LEO) satelites used for?
communications, military reconnaissance, spying and other imaging applications
What are the two kinds of telescopes used to look at planets?
Refracting telescopes
Reflecting telescopes
