Vancomycin (1 gram every 12 hours)

Vancomycin or Daptomycin
(4 - 6 weeks)
What should you obtain if a patient has Staph Bacteremia?
Echocardiogram
- rule out infective endocarditis
Staph. aureus produces toxins that can cause what 3 complications?
Scalded Skin Syndrome → Children
Toxic Shock Syndrome → Adults
Enterotoxin Food Poisoning
Signs and Symptoms of Toxic Shock Syndrome
Abrupt High Fever
Vomiting
Watery Diarrhea
Rash
Conjunctivitis
Desquamation of palms and soles during recovery
Toxic Shock Syndrome Blood Cultures
Negative
- symptoms are due to the effects of the toxin and not the systemic infection

Rapid Rehydration
