When a Standby Team is in place when can they be re-assigned

Only after RIT has been assigned and is on-scene and only by order of the Incident
Commander.

What is a Backup Team?
A
2-4 FF, you may move into the IDLH atmosphere however
your primary duties are still to serve as an initial rescue team for the primary fire attack
team and to protect egress points for crews operating in the IDLH atmosphere

What is a Standby Team?
A
An Initial Standby Team is a team of two to four firefighters designated by the
Incident Commander to standby with a hoseline OUTSIDE atmospheres Immediately
Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).
